The goal of Choose to Persevere is to bring HOPE and ENCOURAGEMENT
Life rarely turns out like we expect it to. Even in our unplanned challenges, we can still find hope, joy, and new success.

Thank you for visiting my site! I hope my journey and resources are a blessing to you.
I felt called during the winter months of 2020-2021 to start my writing journey and explore speaking opportunities in order to encourage and equip others, based on the experiences I had positively persevered through. I signed a contract with Trilogy Publishing, and my first book published in March 2022, in time for May Stroke Awareness Month. I am still busy today, marketing my book, doing book signing events, and appearing on podcasts to share my story with others. You can learn more about my story under the "About Me" section under "Survive and Thrive". My writing journey continues, and I am working on a 52-week devotional now. I have also had the privilege of being a compilation author in eight other published books.
One of my favorite Bible verses is Jeremiah 29:11-13 NIV. It says: 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
I believe God has a unique plan for each of us, but He gives us the choice whether we will have faith in Him and follow His plan or not. My first book is about those choices and my journey. God’s plan led me down the rocky road of medical challenges, but He also blessed me with a wonderful husband of 26 years, great parents, and the opportunity to be an adoptive Mom to three kids. I have a lot I am truly thankful for!
Although it has been over twenty years since my stroke, I am still doing regular therapy sessions and am always on the lookout for new resources. Stroke recovery is a lifelong journey. As I have continued to share my journey as an author and a speaker, I recently added a service dog into our family to help me. Maverick is s a German Shepherd, Husky, Cattle dog mix that is training to help me with mobility in unknown situations. Although training is a lot at times, he has become my non-human best friend.
So thank you again for being here! Please take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about me and my journey. I hope you enjoy my site, sign up for my newsletter, and enjoy your FREE gifts! A new blog is coming soon to encourage others who have experienced a medical challenge or been an adoptive parent. Also on the horizon is a podcast designed to highlight stories from stroke survivors, so please stay tuned and check back for updates.
I am ecstatic to present my first book to you! It is available now on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, and Christianbook.com or you can get a signed copy directly from me today! Here are the links:
God always has a plan.
But He leaves it up to you whether you follow His plan or not.
Life is about choices.
I have chosen to depend on God's faithfulness through our challenges.
Lori suffered an intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke at age 29, and then developed epilepsy due to the stroke. She is a walking miracle and felt called to share her story, and her journey of faith and perseverance, to encourage others. Lori believes God has a plan for each of us, but life is about your choices! Even with her difficulties, she was able to become an adoptive Mom of a sibling group of three.
I am very excited to share my journey and what I have learned alongside of other published authors in several published compilations. Although I have many ideas for my own books, I love contributing and writing with others. I have been so blessed by this writing journey!
Please see the "Survive and Thrive" tab at the top and click on "Books" for more information on each published compilation. Each book can be ordered on Amazon or a signed copy can be purchased directly from me.
If you would like a signed copy, please contact me for payment and shipping details at lorivober@gmail.com. I can accept electronic payments through Zelle, Square, Venmo, or a personal check.
When unexpected medical challenges occur, like a stroke, the recovery for most survivors is a lifelong one. I have learned so much on my journey and am passionate about encouraging others based on my experiences. As an author and a speaker, I needed extra help to share my message independently.
May is National Stroke Awareness Month and October 29th is recognized as World Stroke Day. Although it has been years since my stroke, I wanted to take this opportunity to bring more awareness to stroke throughout the month of May and again in October. Stroke affects every survivor differently. A majority of the time, stroke leaves survivors with some type of lingering disability. Stroke recovery and rebuilding is a marathon, not a race. If it is a lifelong journey physically, emotionally, and cognitively. I have learned and continue to learn and grow so much on this journey as I learn to to thrive in my "new normal".
I am so thankful for all that participated in my 2022 stroke awareness fundraiser to help raise money for scholarships for stroke camp at NAU. Total raised was $1675!
Although it has been over 20 years since my stroke, I am still hard at work in therapy and making consistent gains. I am a walking testimony to the neuroplasticity of the brain to relearn after a stroke and the power of a positive attitude and perseverance.
At age 29, at the time of my stroke, I was not aware of the signs of a stroke like I should have been so am more passionate now on making the signs of a stroke known to others. A popular acronym to remember is
