The One Arm/One Hand Stroke Awareness Fundraiser Challenge

MY BOOK and STROKE AWARENESS

Thank you again for your continued support of my new book, CHOICES: When You Are Faced with a Challenge, What Choice Will You Make? and my writing journey. I am so excited to see what doors God continues to open to use my story to bring hope and encouragement to others. As many of you know, my first huge challenge was my massive stroke at age 29, which left me paralyzed on the left side at the time of the stroke.

I am walking proof that stroke has no age restrictions, and it is very important to know the signs of a stroke and get help immediately if you think you are having one. There is a slogan to help you called BE FAST!

It stands for:

BALANCE Difficulties, Headache, Dizziness

EYESIGHT Changes, Blurred Vision

FACE Drooping or Weakness

ARM Weakness or Leg

SPEECH Difficulties

TIME to Call 911

MY RECOVERY, SWAN REHAB, and ORIGINAL OWNER: KAY WING

May is National Stroke Awareness Month, and although it has been years since my stroke, I wanted to take this opportunity with the recent release of my first book to bring more awareness to stroke throughout the month. Stroke affects every survivor differently. A majority of the time, stroke leaves survivors with some type of lingering disability.

The first part of the challenge is to invite you into a stroke survivor’s world for a day, a week, or the whole month, as you take on the challenge of living life using only one hand. The idea is for you to walk away with more awareness the next time you pass a stroke survivor or someone with an injury that has affected their ability to efficiently do everyday tasks you probably currently take for granted, such as easily getting dressed, independently preparing meals, or other routine two-handed daily activities.

If you decide to try this part of the challenge, I invite you to have fun with it and post on my Facebook page, pictures or comments of what everyday tasks you have tried to do one-handed and how it went. You would be surprised at what you can do!

DONATE TO THE STROKE CAMP TODAY!

The second part of the challenge is a fundraiser. I would like to raise money for scholarships to help other stroke survivors attend a stroke camp held every year at Northern Arizona University. Therapy is very expensive and many survivors are told by their doctors that if they don’t recover in 6 months, they will not recover. I would never be where I am today without the owner of my rehab and all my therapists through the years at SWAN Rehab that did not believe this. Kay, the original owner of SWAN Rehab, has worked closely with a professor at NAU and their OT and PT PHD students to put together this camp. I attended this camp before we adopted in 2008. It gives students a chance to work with real patients and survivors to get much needed one on one therapy help. Whether you can donate $5 or $20, every little bit will help. The camp cost $300 for each patient so my goal is to raise at least $650 (includes fees). This will help 2 stroke survivors with scholarships to this stroke camp. The next camp will be held at NAU in Flagstaff on November 11-13, 2022.

TO DATE, TOTAL AMOUNT RAISED IS $1182!

If you would like to still contribute and help me reach the goal of $1200, which would be 4 scholarships, please contact me at lorivober@gmail.com. I can accept personal checks or Zelle payments at this point. Thank you for all of your support!

Back Cover Summary

God always has a plan.

But He leaves it up to you whether you follow His plan or not.

Life is about choices.

I have chosen to depend on God's faithfulness through our challenges.

  • Everyone has doubts about their own abilities, but God has a plan for each of us.
  • So believe in Him, and don't give up.
  • Sometimes your attitude, drive, and enthusiasm can take you further than your talents or abilities.
  • Attitude can make all the difference.
  • Find your happiness in who God says you are.
  • Don’t let someone else define your happiness.

Welcome Friends!

Thank you so much for visiting my site! My family and I have been on quite a journey over the past 18 years, filled with both blessings and challenges. These challenges include a massive stroke at age 29, epilepsy due to the stroke, and later becoming a Mom to three older internationationally adopted children. I am so thankful for the faith and positive attitude God has blessed me with to persevere through these challenges. I hope my journey will encourage you to do the same!

I felt called during the winter months of 2021 to write down my story and start exploring speaking opportunities in order to encourage and equip others. I have signed a contract with Trilogy Publishing, a subsidiary of TBN, and am SO excited! My first book will be published in March, in time for Stroke Awareness Month in May.

One of my favorite Bible verses is Jeremiah 29:11-13 NIV.   It says:  11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

I believe God has a unique plan for each of us, but He gives us the choice whether we will have faith in Him and follow His plan or not.  My book is about those choices and my journey. God’s plan led me down the rocky road of medical challenges but he also blessed me with a wonderful husband of over 24 years, great parents, and the opportunity to be an adoptive Mom. I have a lot I am truly thankful for!

So thank you again for being here, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about me and my journey. I hope you enjoy my site and sign up for my newsletter and blog feed below!
